A Day in Review: March 10

Posted: March 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

WOW.

It was a light day, I guess. Could’ve went to OCC, where there were 6 regional games. A lot of dandies, from what I heard. Would’ve been great to watch, even though no way in hell my phone would’ve survived. Decided to roll with Oneonta like initially planned though to catch 3 games: C girls, D girls, D boys. I’m glad I made that decision.

We’ll talk about the games first. I won’t give a rundown here – they were in the tweets. If you want the rundown, refer to Twitter. What I’d like to talk about is the support these communities showed their teams, and damn it, it was just loud. Great environment. I’ve already said it twice, and I’ll say it more: Cooperstown/Harpursville (C girls) was probably the loudest I’ve ever heard a gym get for a Class C/D basketball game. With how back and forth it was, and the amount of people there (due to proximity and ease of travel – keep that in mind, Section 3), Oneonta’s gym was raucous. The “guest” (Cooperstown) is actually closer to Oneonta than Harpursville HS, but even for Harpursville, it’s just a simple drive up 88. Cooperstown had a whole 20 minutes to travel, and the Hall of Fame may have even shut down judging by the amount of Redskins that were in the stands. I see both ends of the argument about large-school vs. small-school, coming from a smaller school and being immersed in the large school life. One thing I will say is that when a smaller school makes it to this level, their community will truly get behind them. It’s a great thing to see. Same with Oriskany/Franklin. The “guest” (Oriskany) really felt like the guest: The O-Zone didn’t exactly come to perform, and with their stellar cheerleading squad (yeah, just complimented cheerleaders) at a state competition in Rochester (#YouGoGlenCoco), the O-Redskin crowd lacked the enthusiasm that the C-Redskin crowd had the game before. Not to mention… Franklin’s crowd came out amped. Franklin is in the Oneonta area, and you could tell with the crowd representation. With Oriskany winning that game, it truly felt like they won a road game. The last game between New York Mills & Marathon lacked the drama and excitement that the first two brought, for the most part. It had its moments – but even when Marathon started the game on a 7-2 spurt, the outcome was never truly in question to me, and it was easily the most quiet/emptiest of the three games. It had its share of funny moments, as expressed on Twitter. Marathon never quit, and that is to their credit. With NYM up 51-31, that could’ve been the case. However, they did claw back and get it to single digits, only to have NYM win by 13. At Oneonta, it was Section III 2, Section IV 1. All-in-all, out of 10 Section III champs, 5 have advanced to the Final 4. In AA, A, and B, there will be 1 apiece, with C-NS girls, Ludden & Westhill boys respectively. Class C went 0 for 2, and Class D will send both NYM boys and Oriskany girls to the promised land.

Now quickly to Oneonta State itself. Over the years, I’ve been to enough neutral sites. For as long as I’ve known the difference, I’ve had a beef with Section III about neutral sites. Generally speaking, their love of keeping it close to the ‘Cuse. However, I frankly think they don’t use sense. Whether it’s have a game at a crappy Baldwinsville HS gym when there are better within a 10 minute radius, or have games such as Herkimer/Cooperstown or Mohawk/WCV at OCC, there’s some lack of sense issues. Section IV has this one right. When I grade neutral sites, I think of a lot of things. Parking, attitude of staff, working room, freedom of movement, seating (enough, but not too much), condition of court itself, concession stand/price of goods. Those are just a few. Oneonta’s gym isn’t the most comfortable to sit in as a 6’6″ spectator when it’s packed (trust me, I’ve been there), but that’s the only knock I have. Maybe the selection at the concession stand, but the price makes up for it. Hell, the stuff at their concession stand was the cheapest I’ve seen since the regular season. OCC overcharged. The Dome… well, obviously. Oneonta’s was great for a tight budget. There’s enough parking to find a spot somewhere within walking distance. The seating amount is perfect. You can easily fit a couple grand in there, but when that group makes noise, the place gets rockin’. Pretty large gym, but it has a small gym feel to it. Great atmosphere. It’s a little bit bigger version of HCCC (which is horribly underutilized in Section III). Section IV and NYSPHSAA, you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Best Moment: The last 50 seconds of Cooperstown/Harpursville. Awesome. Sumer Murdock hitting the game-tying trey w/ :45.0 seconds left, and the lid blew off the building. Miranda Drummond hitting the go-ahead and ultimately game-winning trey just over 7 seconds later, and the lid blew all the way to Owego. Sucks that someone had to lose that game.

MVP of the Day: The aforementioned Miranda Drummond. Mind you, right before she hit that 3, she jammed her finger pretty good. Maybe the sound was worse than the pain, but I was 50 feet away from where she got a hand in the passing lane and poked a tough chest pass away, and I heard the pop. Nasty. She was out for a few seconds, came back in, and nailed the three. Those were the last 3 of her 26 points on the day, scoring nearly 60% of her team’s 45 points in a 2 point W. That’s clutch. Honorable mention goes to Jordan Beers of Franklin. Even in a loss, it’s well-deserved. Franklin doesn’t get there without her, and they don’t look competitive in that game without her either. Franklin scored 46, and she had 30. Probably had 4 or 5 assists on the team’s 6 or 7 FGs that weren’t hers as well. She had a part in just about every Franklin point. Oriskany knew Beers was their offense, and they geared for it. They just couldn’t stop it. Impressive.

What I’ll Take Away: 2 things. #1: Damn, Mike Adey really complimented officials pretty much the whole way. I guess he only got on them for the first 500 wins. #2: who cares how small your school is? Get the community behind you, and you can still rock the house!

Until next time, MVT out.

With a combination of things on my plate that a workaholic would cry about (school, 2 jobs, modified coaching), I can admit 2 things: I haven’t been able to make as much sectional action as I’d like, and I definitely haven’t posted as much as I’d like. C’est la vie, as they say over in France. However, I did spend Wednesday watching hoops (and getting parking tickets) at OCC, along with all of Sunday. I spent a lot of the time… hmm, you could say information gathering. And getting my name thrown into staple chants in student sections. Thanks again Mills! There are a good number of things that have sparked my interest about these upcoming matchups & things revolving around them – so here goes. The 10 most interesting things about the sectional finals, in no particular order!

1.) Can anyone touch C-NS? Sure, Breanna Stewart’s a Husky now. The Northstars are still rollin’. 17-3 on the season, but 15-0 against Section 3 schools and winning by an average of about a million points per game. They have Corcoran in the AA final. They just played Corcoran 2 weeks ago.. won 63-28. So I guess this isn’t interesting after all. C-NS do what C-NS do. (Oh, by the way, they played a favorite in AA out of Section 2 already in Albany.. beat them 90-27. Yikes.)

2.) In the same vein, how many of these games will actually be competitive? Don’t expect it out of AA girls. The 2 finalists in Class D girls (Oriskany & NYM) have played twice – Oriskany won both 55-31. At the D level for the boys’ side, after watching the Faith Heritage/NYM game and portions of Cincy/McGraw, I feel that the last 2 teams NYM has played to get to the Dome were better than who they’ll play there. Although Cincy showed resilience Sunday, that doesn’t make up for size & skill that NYM wins out on. Westhill & Skaneateles (boys B finalists) played each other early in the season, Westhill 58-43 victors there. However, that one seems like it could be a game. Throw in factors in other games, such as the fact that both teams in the girls A finals (Whitesboro/J-D) have spurtability, along with Cooperstown in C, and if they get going, it could be quite a long night for the opposition. Throw in New Hartford/Ludden in the As for the boys. A lot of these games have good written all over them, but an equal number have good night written all over them, too.

3.) Is this the year for Mohawk? They’ve been knocking on the door the last couple seasons. The Mohicans, 19-1 on the season and winners of 18 straight (though their non-league schedule had more Boeheim cream-puff games than Tom Izzo challenge games), face Fabius-Pompey in the C2 final at HCCC (we’re going to get into this with another point). If this year isn’t it for Mohawk, it never will be… literally. With the Mohawk/Ilion merge a done deal basically, this is the last season of Mohican hoops as we know it. With basically all of Mohawk’s impact players being seniors (sans Mitch Werenczak), this is a core that’s been through the ringer. The fact that their sectional final is practically a home game doesn’t exactly hurt. It’ll be a dogfight against the Falcons – but I’m thinking they’d love to have a matchup at the Dome against Beaver River, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs at the semifinal level last year.

4.) Speaking of Mohawk and HCCC… Section 3 preaches that these games are at “neutral sites”. However, I have to ask myself, is this really a neutral site? Sure, it’s not at Jarvis. Couldn’t get any closer though! I’ve made the Herkimer-to-Fabius drive multiple times before (seriously). It’s about an hour and a half, give or take a few depending on if there are any cops or Amish on the roads. Better chance of seeing the horses & carriages. I’ve also made the Herkimer-to-Mohawk drive multiple times before (again, seriously). It’s about rock-throwing distance. I know Mohawk’s the #1 seed, so the game deserves to be closer to them. However, the section has always said that these games should be half the distance to the higher seed as it is to the lower seed. Wait… how about RFA? Sounds about right! As a Herkimer resident, the proximity is cool with me, and I’ve made enough pointless trips to Syracuse to gladly take this (such as Herkimer/Cooperstown, Little Falls/Cooperstown, and Mohawk/WCV at OCC this past week). It’s still a pain in the ass to see Section 3 be so hypocritical on things such as this, though.

5.) How many people actually care about the best game of the event? I normally wouldn’t make a comment that sounds so ridiculously biased, but I think this one is obvious after looking at the facts. There haven’t been many more games to me that have been more interesting on paper and in mind than Notre Dame/South Jefferson in the B girls final. 2 absolutely dominant teams. South Jeff comes in undefeated and ranked #6 in the state, Notre Dame at #19, which is bogus. There are not 18 teams in NYS Class B better than Notre Dame. They might get at you differently on the offensive end. South Jeff spreads the love (Austin Stevens leading the way at 13.5 ppg, 5 players around 7 or more). Although Notre Dame has plenty of scoring threats, when all is said and done, the rock is in Emily Durr’s hands. Both teams make their living by shutting you down defensively. Notre Dame came into Westhill’s house (ranked #5 in B) and beat them by 20. South Jeff played Caz at OCC (ranked #11 in B) and beat them by over 30. No one has touched South Jeff up north in years. Notre Dame is next-to-untouchable in the Utica area. Two powerhouse programs meeting up. Get your popcorn ready.

6.) Can New Hartford hang with Ludden? Very interesting game – well, at least it could be. One of the rare games at this point in the season where I look at it and think it could be extremely competitive or a complete blowout. If Ludden exploits where they have the advantage (SIZE SIZE SIZE), this one could be in the books. However, NH can really get hot from deep. Each Henderson could give you 20+, each one could hit 5 or 6 treys. Tom Clifford’s in the game to give you a long-range threat, and he hit 2 big ones in succession against Carthage in the 4th. Not to mention pretty much anyone else that they put on the floor can give you a deep threat, with the general exception of their 2 post players. If Ludden pounds the blocks, gets NH in foul trouble, and defends the 3 point line, this one could get nasty. If NH hits a few treys and Ludden lets Sparty get some confidence, this could be a shootout at the OK Corral!

7.) Is this the year that Henninger beats Proctor in a sectional final? Proctor is the defending AA champs at the boys side, and they beat Henninger to win it. Proctor/Henninger used to be the battle back in my high school days, with Proctor guys such as Deandre Preaster, Wes Jackson, Ron Tarver, Akeem Flagg, and Henninger guys such as Ben Cronin, David Simmons, Stefan Gage, Kihary Blue. The last time Henninger was the top dog in these battles was back in the ’03-’04 days, where Proctor had one Josh Wright (Syracuse University), but Henninger had one Cornelious Vines (Hofstra) and Andray Blatche (NBA). They’ve played each other twice this season, with each team winning by double digits on their own floor. Can’t wait to see the madness that ensues! Hopefully not in between the two student sections and next to Tevin Chisholm’s family like last year.

8.) Whose student section will be the best?! Through the regular season, I said it wasn’t even a competition: Ludden’s kids BROUGHT IT. Original, entertaining, and besides the idiot who ran on the court at the end of their game against Grimes, legal. However, NYM’s Marauder Maniacs gave them some stiff competition over the weekend during the Faith Heritage/NYM boys game. I know Proctor and Henninger will both bring it. So who will it be? The favorite Bishop Ludden, the upstart NYM, the always tough Raider Nation, the equally-as-tough Henninger crew, or will it be a darkhorse? Bring your A+ games, student sections! Even if that means including my name in a chant…

9.) Who will make their name here? Last year, Tyler Cavanaugh came out and impressed. Shannon “Every Day” Van Shufflin iced it for her Oriskany Redskins. Little Falls made the story of a lifetime with 7 strong winning the C title. A couple years ago, Anthony DelCoro went from Del”Who”ro to DelHero in one game for C-NS. Who will it be this year? Nick Comenale is looking for it – he played well in the Dome last year, too. Carson Murphy, with over 1,600 career points, could cement himself here. Chris Simmons? Austin Stevens? Liz Millea? Or will it be someone else? Someone we don’t expect? Only time will tell…

10.) Who’s ready for an MVT invasion? We won’t be there Wednesday or Thursday – previous obligations. However, the boys finals will get the MVT takeover on Sunday. Get your popcorn ready!

The Week Ahead

Posted: October 15, 2012 in Uncategorized

Haven’t been as active on here as I hoped: it’s been crazy! Twitter’s been poppin: 500 followers and hopefully plenty more to come. However, checked the schedule and came up with a preliminary schedule for us for this week. Section 3 MVT: possibly coming to a game near you!

Monday is a girls soccer day. Starting off in Little Falls for Herkimer/LF (Little Falls senior night – well, day – and the game is at the football field up at the high school, not Monroe St.) at 4:30. If it ends in regulation, I’ll swing by Clinton/Ilion for a little while (starts at 6) and then head over to Mohawk/Frankfort at 7. If it goes into extra time like it seems everything has been, skip the Ilion and head straight to Frankfort.

Tuesday: one game, that would be Little Falls/Herkimer boys soccer (senior night) which kicks off at 6.

Wednesday: one game (because of travel), Herkimer girls head up to the north country to take on the Eskimos of Old Forge! 4:30 jump.

Thursday: How perfect! I get out of class around 4 at SUNY… and Mt. Markham/Poland boys soccer will be at SUNY, 4:30 start. Couldn’t be more convenient if I tried. I’ll be out there for that, then finally get to a field hockey game, this one being New York Mills @ Mt. Markham, which will start at 7. Mills trying to get a revenge W after an OT loss that ended in particularly controversial fashion
.

Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! Starting off at Sauquoit Boosters soccer tournament. Who’s playing at particular times? No clue. Gonna get there for the start at 4, watch whatever’s going on, and head out in time to get to Proctor early for Frankfort/Herkimer football (Class C-2 sectional semifinals) at 7:00.

Saturday’s the fun day. No clue when Sauquoit boys/girls tournament is slated for, but if it fits the schedule, I’m there. Could end up at Pulaski/WCV for a little while (Class D football quarterfinal) at 2, but due to the way the schedule works, leaning towards a Class B quarterfinal with Westhill visiting Cazenovia, also at 2. Should be there for a little while, maybe full 1st half, but cutting out and heading 15 minutes up Rt. 13 to Chittenango for some more Class C semifinal action. Starts off with General Brown/Skaneateles at 3:00, then Lowville/Tully at 6:00.

If you see a 6’6″ dude, white as a ghost & wearing basketball clothes, that’s me! If you bring me a hot chocolate, I shall be forever grateful. Only thing better than that would be some Tully’s or O’Scugnizzo’s…

Let’s go!

Boys soccer: Thomas Seeberger gets the lone goal, Andrew Rollis gets the shutout as Loudonville Christian beats Waterford 1-0. Mike Reger records a shutout for Berlin in their 2-0 W over Heatly. Joey Stier scores the lone goal in the game for Germantown, and they beat the good ol’ Thunder Chicken of Doane Stuart 1-0. Guilderland gets all 3 of their goals in the first half, 2 from James Mesiti in their 3-0 victory over Averill Park. Kedrick Weeden gets the SO. Columbia and Colonie can’t decide a winner – 2-2 draw. Nisky gets all 3 of theirs in the 2nd half and get by Saratoga 3-0. Matt Henning saw the back of the net twice for Bethlehem in their 3-0 W over Mohon. Phillip Barrett scores the lone goal for Shen, and Danny Juers gets the shutout; 1-0 final over Shaker. Burnt Hills & Ballston Spa also can’t find a winner, 1-1 final. Keeping with the shutout theme, Chatham gets a goal apiece from Williams Lezama and Rowan Meadowstreet and they defeat Catskill 2-0. Marcel Dupuis scores the only goal of the game, Matthew Snow gets the shutout for Greenville – 1-0 over Hudson. Kenny Aderounmu scores the lone goal for Mekeel in their 1-0 win over Fort Plain. Brad VanNostrand scored in OT to get a 1-0 W for Northville over Canajoharie. Tim Monette got the extended time shutout. Galway gets all 3 of their goals in the 1st half, and they beat Sharon Springs 3-0. Mayfield puts 5 through in the 1st half, end up winning 8-1 over St. Johnsville (hey, finally not a shutout!). Dylan Toscano had a solid 4 goals and an assist for the winners. Finally, La Salle also gets a shutout and 3 goals in the 2nd half, which propelled them to a 3-0 W over CCHS. Eric Backstrom gets the shutout. If you’re counting, that’s 16 games in Section 2 today, and 13 shutouts. Damn, goalies and defenses are going in!

Time for girls soccer. Mount Anthony Union gets 2 goals from Makayla Farrara in their 4-1 W over Emma Willard. 4 score for Hoosic Valley in their 4-0 W over Cambridge – Samantha Carlo credited with 3 saves in the shutout. In our Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night, Scotia-Glenville.. ahem, squeaks by Hudson Falls 9-0. 6 players scored, led by a Sophie Constantino hat trick. Brooke Creech got a whopping 1 save for the shutout. Jordyn Rousselle scored twice for Schuylerville in their 3-1 W over Tamarac. Lot of 1-0 games: Abby Seymour scores for Bethlehem & Katie Nickles gets the shutout in theirs over Mohon, Alexis Eddy scores & Courtney Yule gets the shutout for Colonie in theirs over Columbia, and Kristen Connors scores the lone goal with a Makayla Foley shutout for Shen in theirs over Shaker. Shutout goes to Kristen Hartlage as Nisky scores a pair in the 2nd half, 2-0 final over Saratoga. What do you know, another shutout! This one goes to Megan Hagadorn and Middleburgh, 2-0 winners over Schoharie. Let’s just keep the shutouts rolling: Florie Comley gets one & Morgan Burchhardt scores for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 1-0 W over Ballston Spa. Couple 8-0 games here; Mechanicville gets one over Cohoes behind 2 goals apiece from Sarah Meisel (w/ 2 assists), Mikayla Gowett, and Katelyn Pingelski, along with a Kim Thompson SO, and Queensbury gets all 8 in the 1st half in theirs over Gloversville; Brittany LaPlant put in some work, with 4 goals and an assist and Sarah O’Brien only needs to get 2 saves for the shutout. Mekeel gets a hat trick & a dime from Macie Holmes in their 4-0 W over Fort Plain; Emily Taplin in goal for the SO. Canjo over Northville 3-0 – all 3 in the 1st half, Jenelle Dillenbeck 2 of them, and Lauren Balfe gets the shutout. Kelly Phillips makes the Mexican soccer announcers yell GOLLLLLLL twice in Galway’s 4-0 W over Sharon Springs. Grace Delurey & Jordyn Haynes each score twice for Hoosick Falls in their 4-0 W over Stillwater, and finally, not a shutout!!!!! Broadalbin-Perth gets a pair of hat tricks, one from Katie Herba (w/ an assist hat trick on the side) and the other from Kylie Gifford in their 7-1 W over Johnstown. Again, if you’re counting, 17 games; 14 shutouts. Total between boys & girls soccer – 33 games, 27 shutouts. That’s a striking percentage for the lack of striking the losing teams were doing! We’ll chalk it up to good D.

Hope you enjoyed! Leave us some comments, follow us/like us, let us know how we can improve!

9/24 Section 3 Recap

Posted: September 25, 2012 in Uncategorized

What a wonderful day for sports! Beautiful outside, and MVT was represented at 3 high school games tonight: Herkimer/Camden boys, Hamilton/Poland boys, and Old Forge/Herkimer girls. We’ll get to them all – but let’s get to the full recap.

Start with the fellas. Herkimer got by winless Camden 2-0. Nick Marollo ripped one through & Andrew Stilwell got his 1st varsity goal. Cooperstown had a Cooperstown-like performance, beating Mohawk 4-0, all 4 in the 1st half. Michael Rowley had 2 goals and an assist. Frankfort dismantled Morrisville 8-2 – 4 goals and 2 assists from Dan Kislyak, Kyle Unser with 2 and 2. Ben Owens scored the lone goal for Clinton and they held on to beat Adirondack 1-0. I have nothing to say about Little Falls right now… they just got beat 8-0 by Owen D. Young. I know ODY is an improving soccer program, but.. seriously. Bradlee Edick got a hat trick & a dime, Maxwell Crisman had a goal and 2 assists, & Dustin Monk had 2 goals. Colby Barnhart scored the lone goal for McGraw and Ryan White got yet another shutout as they beat Otselic Valley 1-0. Sherburne now 5-3-1 after defeating Ilion 2-1. Sauquoit scored both goals in the 2nd half to get a 2-1 comeback W over Westmoreland, Alex Plamondon scored both of them for the Indians. Hamilton and Poland played to a very entertaining scoreless draw at HCCC. Poland for sure had their chances, just came up empty. I’m sure they’ll see each other farther on in October. Tyler Plows had a hat trick & a dime in Mt. Markham’s 5-0 W over Waterville – if you’re counting, that’s 14 goals in the last 3 games. Mike Gras got the shutout for the Mustangs. Faith Heritage got 2 goals from Ian Finch and 1 & 1 from Michael Cathcart in Faith Heritage’s 6-1 W over Cato-Meridian. MPH got 2 from Solomon Ochieng and a goal & an assist hat trick from Gerrit Church in their 4-0 W over winless Bishop Grimes. CBA breaks out with 3 in the 2nd half and gets a 4-0 W over J-D behind a hat trick from Andrew DePerro – Mike Smith gets the shutout in goal. Homer and Jordan-Elbridge play 100 minutes and can’t determine a winner, 1-1 final. Westhill stays undefeated at 7-0 and Conor Powell gets a pair of goals in their 7-1 W over Marcellus. Former Athlete of the Week Ian Kearns did his thing, scoring all 4 of Alexandria Bay’s goals in their 4-1 W over Beaver River – A-Bay yet to lose a game at 6-0-1. In our Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night, Copenhagen now 5-0-1, Belleville still winless after a final score of 14-0. Wow. I don’t know whether there was that much of a difference or if there was some running up the score or what, but that’s bigger than Kirstie Alley when she stops the Jenny Craig. 10 players got in the scoring action, led by an Antonio Figueroa hat trick. Travis Clark & Breven Jacobs had 2 goals & an assist apiece. Indian River now 5-2 after beating South Jeff 3-0; Tyler Cook 2 goals and Jacob LaClair gets the shutout. In a game that would be a Jiffy mention on most nights, IHC wiped their asses with Sandy Creek, 10-0 final. 8 players got in on the action, and Jarrod Smith got the shutout. Most of the scoring done in the 2nd half as LaFargeville beats South Lewis 5-2, led by 2 goals and an assist from Hunter Ainsworth. Thousand Islands picked up 2 goals & 3 assists from Scott McKain in their 6-2 W over Sackets. Lowville scored all 3 of theirs in the 2nd half and beat Lyme 3-1. Finally, Tyler Biolsi had another good game, getting a goal and an assist on the other goal in Carthage’s 2-1 W over General Brown.

Slightly lighter of a day in girls soccer, but plenty of games on tap. Jenna Sherwood 2 goals, Michaela Soules was dimin’ kids with 4 assists as Camden beat Oneida 5-0 to improve to 6-1-1. Teigha Ward saw the back of the net twice in Ilion’s 4-2 W over Frankfort in a battle between .500 teams. Herkimer got the 1-0 W over Old Forge, Chelsea Jory with the shutout and McKenzie Pine with the goal – check the Twitter for full updates there. Erin O’Connor picked up.. you guessed it.. a hat trick! And Joleen Marfone scored a goal and had 2 assists as Remsen beat Adirondack 5-0. If you’re counting, Remsen is now outscoring teams 39-1 over 7 games. Caz got 2 goals and an assist from Kristie Klein in their 3-2 W over Chittenango. Westhill improves to 6-2-1 by beating Carthage 1-0 – Maggie Tripodi the lone goal for Westhill, Samantha Peebles gets another shutout. Ludden gets a pair of goals from Kelly Granteed and a goal and 2 dimes from Shelby Hunter in their 5-1 W over Solvay. Jordan-Elbridge gets its first win of the year in a 5-3 W over Phoenix, Alexis Rouse scored twice for the winners. Finally, South Lewis scores 5 in the 1st half on the way to their 6-0 W over LaFargeville. 6 players scored a goal each, Rachel Newell & Jaeden Ossant got 2 assists apiece with a goal.

Time for fockeyyyyy. New Hartford now 6-2 after beating Whitesboro 2-1 – MaryKate Alessandrini scored for the Spartans. Hannah White gets the shutout for C-NS and they improve to 4-0-1 after their 2-0 W over Port Byron. Marissa Penge and Morgan Thomas both score for Liverpool, and Megan Evangelista gets a shutout as they beat F-M 2-0. Last but not least, Paige McKenna gets a goal off a Mallory Porch assist, and Morgan Starczewski gets a 2 save shutout in Baldwinsville’s 1-0 W over Homer.

You know the drill already!

9/22 Section 2 Recap

Posted: September 24, 2012 in Uncategorized

Gonna try this whole Section 2 recap business. Section 3 MVT is already expanding to Upstate MVT, and I’m liking it! Let’s get it going. To new Section 2-ers, here’s how it goes. We recap on the blog, along with quick highlights on the Twitter (@Section3MVT). If you like what you see, hit that follow button! We also have a Facebook page, search Section 3 MVT (Most Valuable Table) and it should come up. Recaps normally go in the following order: football, boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey. So how about we get going with Saturday’s recap?

Chatham continued its roll through the schedule so far with a 34-0 W over Fonda. Tyler Van Brunt threw for 2 TDs (both to John Mackerer) and ran one in as well. Chatham has had 3 shutouts in 4 games, and the one game that wasn’t a shutout, they only gave up 6 points. Bethlehem beat Albany 43-6 and preserved Albany’s quite extensive losing streak. Mike Graves & Jason Clas had a pair of rushing TDs apiece for the winners. Watervliet put up 49 in the first half on the way to a 56-0 W over Coxsackie-Athens. Jordan Gleason saw the end zone 3 times – 2 off passes from Taylor Dockstader, one on a punt return. Warrensburg got a last minute victory over Salem, 14-13 final. Marcus Perrone scored from the 1 with 25 seconds left and Warrensburg out of timeouts; Colt Ovitt ran in the 2 point conversion to give them the lead. They overcame a nice game from Tyler Morris from Salem, gaining 150 on the ground and a TD off 9 carries. Mechanicville overcame a penalty-ridden game on their part to get a 19-6 W over Dundee. Chase Delossantos scored from 2 yards out early in the 4th to give Mechanicville the lead for good; he ran for 94 on the day. In a battle between winless teams, Class B Cohoes hammered Class C Granville 66-8. Daishawne Sturdivant ran for 4 TDs, John Malulan ran for 3, and they were the catalysts in a rushing attack that totaled 439 yards on the ground. Finally, Schalmont jumped out to a 38-7 halftime lead and beat Broadalbin-Perth 51-7. Devon Willis had a big night, running his way to 5 TDs for the winners. Chas Higgins ran for 3 himself as well.

In boys soccer, Shaker came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie Guilderland 2-2. Mike Korzun scores twice & Mohonasen scores thrice in the 2nd half to beat Ballston Spa 3-0. Taylor Neil scores twice for Queensbury in their 3-1 W over Glens Falls. Country Moran gets the hat trick for Scotia-Glenville as they defeat Johnstown 5-1. Troy squeaks by South Glens Falls 2-1; Graeme Corrigan the only goal scorer for Troy, one of their goals was an own goal. Uylosa Omorogbe scored one goal and assisted on the other for Colonie (not Colony, like the Colonie Hooter’s thinks it’s spelled… seriously. Check my pic on Twitter & FB) as they win at Saratoga Springs 2-1. Proctor (from Utica, out my way) won 4-0 over Albany. Ricky Grable gets the equalizer for Shen in the 2nd half, and they end up in a 1-1 draw with Bethlehem. Owen Nuss scored his 2nd goal in OT for Averill Park, and they get the W over Burnt Hills 3-2. Finally, Broadalbin-Perth handled Gloversville 5-0; Tucker Wilcox scored twice for the victors.

Time for girls soccer! Saratoga Springs was able to get by Colonie 2-1. Ellery Bianco scored once and assisted on the other for ‘Toga. CCHS got a goal apiece from 5 players in their 5-1 W over Schenectady. Nicole Zacchio had a hat trick and a dime for Cairo-Durham in their win in the championship game of the Hunter-Tannersville tournament over Windham-Ashland-Jewitt (whole lotta hyphens in that sentence), 4-2 final (there’s another one). Samantha Sinpfenderfer scored both goals for W-A-J in the L. Hoosick Falls got a hat trick from Grace Delurey and another from Allie Martin, along with a combined hat trick (2 and 1) from Jordyn Haynes in their 9-2 W over Cambridge. In our Section 2 Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night, Schalmont got 4 from Diana DiCocco and they came out on top 8-0 over Ravena. Rachael Gac had 2 and 1, and Alexandra Cardinal had 3 assists. Taylor Gould only needed to make one save to get the shutout. Finally, Sharon Springs got their lone goal from Morgan Daignault & got a shutout from Alexis VanArsdale, and they pick up the 1-0 W over Jefferson.

9/22 Section 3 Recap

Posted: September 23, 2012 in Uncategorized

Note the Section 3 Recap in the title above: For this Saturday, September 22, our 1st Section 2 Recap will also be posted at some point after this one. We love the support we’re getting from you guys so far, keep it coming! We want this to keep growing and expanding to reach more people and get the antics out at a large scale. As usual, we’ll get going with the pigskin action: In my best Slick Rick voice, hereee we gooo.

Caz pulled away from Cortland in the 2nd half, scoring 25 unanswered at one point, to get the W by a score of 31-13. Kevin Hopsicker threw for a TD and ran for a 2nd one in the win. Oneida wins the 2nd half battle against VVS 13-0, which propels them to a 27-17 victory. Dylan Cafalone ran for 4 short Oneida TDs. Inst. of Tech. scores late and pulls out a 34-31 W over winless Hannibal to get their 1st W of the year. Wanye Jones saw the end zone 3 times, including the final score of the game, a  70 yard kickoff return. Frankfort gets a W over winless Holland Patent 22-16. Joe DeSarro threw for 3 TDs in the win, and Brandon Longo rushed for 103 yards on 10 carries. Frankfort now improves to 3-1 with the win. Mt. Markham outscored Clinton 20-0 in the 2nd half to get a 26-21 W (check the Twitter for the updates). To clarify what I said in a tweet earlier, the last 2 Mt. Markham TDs were scored by Mike Tanzillo. Pulaski evened up its record after beating Beaver River 30-8. Beaver River gained a total of 150 yards – Pulaski’s Thomas Taplin ran for 121 on 18 carries and scored 3 times. Charles Gettino ran 20 times for 116 yards and a TD. Sandy Creek put up 34 in the first half on the way to a 41-0 W over previously unbeaten Port Byron. Wyatt Bush ran for 114 yards on 10 carries, had 2 rushing TDs and saw the end zone a 3rd time on a punt return. Reid Johnson threw for 2 TD passes and Dolgeville held on to beat a Zach Green-less Westmoreland, 20-18. Dolgeville led 20-6 at one point in the 3rd. Morrisville got its first win over the year, bursting for 20 in the 2nd as they beat Mills 34-12. WCV beat Sauquoit 14-7 in an interesting game (peep the Twitter for play-by-play). Ryan Moody threw a TD pass of nearly 80 yards to Ryan Grogan, then returned a pick 40 yards to the house for WCV to make it 14-0 after 3. Sauquoit looked done when WCV took over on downs inside their own 10 with a minute left. However, a fumble on the snap was recovered at the goal line by Sauquoit and made it 14-7.. then of course Sauquoit recovered the onside kick to make it more interesting. QB Slivinski threw a pick on the 1st play though to end the threat. WCV still undefeated at 4-0. Lastly, Oriskany exploded in the 2nd half to beat South Lewis 60-32.

Boys soccer: Carthage got 3 in the 2nd half, 2 from Tyler Biolsi, as they came back to beat New Hartford 3-1. WCV keeps winning, this time getting a 2-0 shutout over Mohawk. Mike Sternberg in goal for the shutout, Chase Roesler with a goal and an assist. Mt. Markham beat Sauquoit 7-2… oh yeah, Tyler Plows scored all 7 goals. Yeah, seriously. Mt. Markham school record! And that makes 11 goals scored in less than 24 hours. Solid day, mate. Clinton got by Burke Catholic 4-3, Steve Ford & Gavin Gleasman with 2 goals and an assist apiece. Poland handled Little Falls with ease, 6-0 final. Mike Sypolt with 2 goals, Mitch Jones gets a 2-save shutout. Matt Lindley & Bryant Loomis each had 2 goals & an assist in Cincy’s 5-0 win over Stockbridge. Adirondack used an aggressive style to beat Herkimer 2-0 in a game there was MVT presence at. Proctor got 2 goals from Moulid Somow as they beat Albany High School 4-0. Michael Rowley scored twice in Cooperstown’s 3-2 W over South Kortright in extra time. Corcoran now 5-2 after winning over Oswego 4-1; 2 goals from Murjani Ramazani. Auburn got shut out by Mynderse, 2-0. Khin Maung Kyi got a hat trick and a dime in Henninger’s 6-1 W over Solvay. Sam Clymer scores the lone goal for Skaneateles, and Erik Pola gets the shutout as Class B Skan beat Class AA West Genesee 1-0. J-D scored 4 in the first half in a 5-0 W over winless Mexico. Mike Mulvihill had 2 goals for the winners. Indian River scored all 4 of its goals in the 2nd half in a 4-2 W over IHC. Junior Malinoski scored 2 of them. South Jeff shut out Lowville 2-0 – William Beese with the shutout W. Nate Pleskach had a hat trick for South Lewis in their 4-1 win over winless Sandy Creek. Last, Nolan Pitkin gets the lone goal for General Brown in their 1-0 W over Beaver River.

Ladies time. Proctor got shut out by West Genny with a team effort – 4 players scored a goal apiece for the Wildcats in their 4-0 win. Andrea Francisco got the shutout. In our Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night, Whitesboro knocked Notre Dame down, wounded them, stared over them, pissed on them, rubbed salt in the wound, and then scored a few more goals. 11-1 final. Ashley Williams and Brie Heitz both had a hat trick and a dime apiece. McGraw got 2 goals and an assist from Jaimee Griffin as they beat Stockbridge 3-0. It took additional time for someone to score between Chittenango and Jordan-Elbridge, but Kaitlin Antelmi broke the scoreless drought in OT, scoring the lone goal of the game as Chittenango won 1-0. Sierra Shafer gets the 100 minute shutout! C-NS now 5-1 after beating Mercy 5-2, and they did it by spreading the love: 5 players scored a goal apiece. Hannibal hung 4 in the 2nd half in their 5-1 W over winless Phoenix. Breann Arthur had a hat trick and a dime, Miranda Gilbert & Abby Converse had combined hat tricks (2 and a dime), as did Darcy Dyer (1 and 2) in Watertown’s 8-0 W over winless General Brown. Finally, Indian River gets its lone goal from Caitlin Pacilio in their 1-0 W over Massena.

Only one score to report in field hockey: Fayetteville-Manlius now 3-0-2 after beating Port Byron 2-0. Julie Hockenberger gets the shutout for the Hornets.

Thanks for waiting on these recaps and hope you’re enjoying them! Athletes of the week should be coming out very late tonight. YPY section will be up tonight or tomorrow. The love is always appreciated, as are comments!

9/21 Section 3 Recap

Posted: September 23, 2012 in Uncategorized

So much to get to, let’s quit the BS and get right to it! Start it up with football. I mean, it is football Friday right? Keisean Scott threw for 4 TDs, Chris Hicks found himself in the end zone 3 times, and Darell West rushed for 189 on 20 carries and a TD in Henninger’s 42-21 W over Central Square. A steady dose of Lawrence Elliott, J’Von Evans, and Naronn “Usher” Harvey led Proctor to a nice 39-20 W over Auburn. Tyler Rouse… well, that young fella is an animal. Dude ran for 366 yards and 5 TDs on 26 carries… and he missed the 3rd quarter. Why? Because he was at the local hospital getting his lip stitched up. Seriously. Baldwinsville got the W behind that performance over RFA, 59-28. From the highs to the lows – Corcoran gets a 2nd quarter safety, and that’s all they needed. Good thing, because that’s all they got. 2-0 W over C-NS, a team that just can’t buy one right now… sorry Ezzo. In what I would call at least a mild upset if not more, Liverpool takes down F-M 28-14. Justin Capoto & Jeff Edwards ran for 356 yards combined – Capoto 10 for 188, Edwards 30 for 168. Capoto also threw for 3 TDs! Both teams now 3-1 in a Class AA field that has proven one thing – its balance. Anyone can beat anyone (basically) on any given night. Whitesboro went up to Watertown and got the 38-28 W. Both teams are also 3-1, and it’s tough to say that a 38-28 game was won defensively with a straight face, but it’s legit here. Whitesboro held Watertown’s stud RB Diamond Williams to 65 yards on 18 carries. He scored on 2 short runs, but that’s about it. Nick Carzo ran for 2 short TDs for Whitesboro, who won with a balanced attack. Indian River took down Oswego 51-30 – Darrius Bryant didn’t need to touch the football a whole lot to make a big-time impact. 130 yards and 3 TDs on 5 carries… that’s a TD on 60% of his carries. He also had 3 catches for 141 yards and 2 TDs… with simple math, he touched the ball 8 times and scored 5 of those times. That’s what I call a day. J-D got a balanced attack from Rasheed Davis & Josiah Williams to lead a 42-0 beatdown of Fulton. Davis ran for 169 yards on 18 carries, Williams 83 on 8. Both players saw the end zone 3 times. ES-M pummeling New Hartford 46-8 in a game where all of the points were scored in the 1st half. Sean Richardson threw for 3 TDs in that one. Class A Carthage lost at Class B Camden 30-14, Joe Muller ran for 111 on 10 carries and 2 TDs in the W. Wayne Timpson ran for 2 TDs in the loss. Marty Clanton threw 3 TD passes, all to TyQuon Hightower as Nottingham got out to a 42-0 lead, final was 42-14 over Fowler in the Class A Battle of the ‘Cuse. Derrick Gore also ran for 185 on 12 carries and had 2 TDs. Reed Derrenbacher went 13/23 for 234 yds and 2 TDs as Westhill beat winless Solvay 26-13. Devin Phelps & the rest of Chittenango went bananas, as the #3 Bears beat Homer, ranked #11, 42-0. It was 35-0 at half behind a 29 point 2nd quarter outburst. Phelps went 5/6 for 106 yards and carried the ball 5 times for 80 yards with 2 TDs. Kyle Zimmer also ran for 129 on 14 carries and 3 TDs, and the other one was scored by Joseph Gilona, who had 8 carries for 101 yards. Chittenango is now outscoring opponents 168-12 this season. Mexico gets its 1st win over winless South Jeff 28-26. John Eastman ran 17 times for 254 yards and 2 TDs in the W. Phoenix evens its record after beating Jordan-Elbridge 33-26. Avery Chisolm had a big one for Phoenix, gaining 240 yards on 21 carries and scoring twice. Brock Maruscsak also scored twice for the winners. Colby Trexler had a monster night in the L for J-E, gaining 252 yards and scoring 3 times on 23 carries. Adirondack continued its struggle, giving up 42 in the 1st half in a 48-0 demoralization at the hands of Lowville. Possibly the 1st game I’ve ever seen where a team scored twice on TDs of over 90 yards (92 yard kick return by Cameron Malik, Kyle Malik 95 yard TD catch from Isaac Widrick). APW does nearly the same thing, scoring all 38 of its points in the first half in a 38-8 W over Thousand Islands. Ludden had a big win at Tully, final score 28-20. Zack Harding threw 2 TDs for Ludden, and Corey Wilkinson saw the end zone twice: once on a 48 yard run and the other on a 75 yard kickoff return. Ilion pulled away in the 2nd half to beat a game Little Falls squad & get their 1st league win of the year, 30-14 final. Good win considering I think Mykel Farley is still out for them. Tyler Brown scored twice for the Bombers, Mike Battisti scored both times for the Mounties. Herkimer took a 19-0 lead into the locker room against Notre Dame and ended up winning 26-7. The Magicians are still undefeated and outscoring opponents 146-36 this season. Austin Mills ran for 112 on 20 carries and scored twice – Matt Borek came just short of 100, rushing for 97 on 17 and scoring as well. However, a key member of the ND offense, Jordan Chroback, was out for the 2nd straight week. He makes a big difference for them. Sherburne bounced back from last week and beat LaFayette 34-14. Devven Farris ran over the LaFayette D like it was a hit-and-run. Dude ran for 211 yards on 10 carries, including TD runs of 60, 57, and 56. Hey, you might want to stop that guy. General Brown wins in impressive fashion over perennial rival IHC 26-0. Speaking of undefeated with big margins of victory, they’re now 4-0 and outscoring opponents 175-15, the largest differential in all of Section 3 as of now. Zack Pitre saw the end zone twice for the winners. Canastota gets a W over Waterville 20-13, although Waterville totally shut Zack Zupan, one of the leading rushers in the section, out of the game. Zupan saw the ball 22 times and only picked up 71 yards, a number he’s used to having triple of. Waterville made it very interesting late – down 20-6, scored to make it 20-13, got the ball back, QB Jon Piersman threw a 46 yard TD pass… only to be called back for holding. Then, on 4th and 29, they connected a pass for 52 yards. Crazy. Onondaga’s looking like Onondaga again, breezed past the Bishop of the Eastside (Grimes) 35-6. Nathan Smart ran for 201 yards on 15 carries and 2 scores for the winners – Grimes did pick up a lot of yards, including 136 on the ground from Casey Jones and 245 in the air from Tyler Carbonaro, but only 6 points on the board to show for it. Weedsport kept on rollin’ by beating Cato-Meridian 35-14. Will Wittmer & Matt Pelc did what Will Wittmer & Matt Pelc do: dominate. Wittmer had 162 on 16 carries, Pelc went for 164 on 12 carries. Simple math: 326 yards between the two of them. They also took turns scoring, each seeing the end zone twice. Carson Murphy ran for 137 yards on just 7 carries, scoring 3 times, including his 1st TD from 80 yards out. He also threw for a TD and returned a kickoff 85 yards to the house, and Mohawk got a W and a demonstrative one by beating Cooperstown 42-13.

Believe it or not, other sports get played on Friday too! Start with boys soccer. Mt. Markham rolled through Morrisville 10-0 in the Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night. Tyler Plows scored 4 times for the Mustangs, and Davide Delia had 2 and 2. Nick Randall scored the lone goal for Fabius-Pompey in their 1-0 W over Faith Heritage. Matt Perry gets the shutout for the victors. McGraw beats the Beavers of Brookfield 3-0, spreading the love as usual. Jeremy Caron scores twice for the Tully Black Knights as they improve to 6-1 with a 5-0 W over Cato-Meridian. MPH has an easy one against SAS, winning 8-0. Solomon Ochieng scored twice and had an assist. Keeping with the shutout theme, West Genny shuts Clinton out 4-0. Luis Delasota scored twice for the Wildcats. The boys out of Camillus are a below average AA team, and Clinton is a well-above average B team, so that shows you the difference between AA and lower classes. Baldwinsville beats Central Square by the same score, Jacob Gentile led the 5-1-1 Bees with 2 goals. Skaneateles got a 5-0 W over Burke Catholic, 2 goals and a dime from Sean Farrell. Erik Pola gets that shutout. In the boys soccer Holy War, Ludden beat Grimes 3-1 (hey, finally not a shutout!) Westhill still undefeated at 5-0 after defeating Chittenango 5-1: Barak BenYehuda had a hat trick for the winners.

Believe it or not, girls have games on Fridays too! South Jeff still undefeated after beating APW 3-0 (again, at least Parish still has the Grist Mill). Courtney Cavellier has become a name I’m getting used to saying because of her output this season, and she kept it going with 2 goals and a dime. Abby Dwyer scored the lone goal for LaFargeville and Destiny James gets the shutout as they defeat Beaver River 1-0. Grimes keeps on chuggin’ along, now 7-0 after winning the Holy War against Ludden 4-2. The Cobras spread the love, 4 players with a goal apiece. Dolgeville beat Fort Plain 3-1 in a game with a very odd “ending”. According to sports editor of the Little Falls Times & Herkimer Telegram, and lifetime honorary member and correspondent of MVT Jon Rathbun, the game was called late in the 2nd half by the officials after the Fort Plain coach was apparently arguing, getting in a verbal battle or something with parents of his own players… huh? Not surprised of the verbal spat, surprised that the officials decided to call the game over it. Oh well. WCV beats Mohawk 2-0; Alexis Fauvelle & Kristen Sportello each score, Courtney Phillips gets another shutout. WCV now 6-1, only loss being non-league to Poland. Cooperstown broke into the W column with a 2-1 win over Mt. Markham. Julie Dysktra & Jordian Siver each scored for the Redskins. Little Falls shows how much they’ve progressed as a program over the last few years by hanging tough with Poland, but the Tornadoes still blank the Mounties and get the win, 1-0 final. Now, onto our Remsen segment… hey, guess what? They won! Erin O’Connor had an Erin O’Connor-type game: a hat trick and an assist. Blake Brand also scored twice for the Rams, and Lizzy Swasey had a goal and 2 dimes. Sandy Creek and Copenhagen play 100 minutes and can’t decide a winner, 1-1 draw. Hannah Horth scored for 5-0-2 Sandy Creek, Claire Stackel for 5-1-1 Copenhagen. Sackets gets a pair of goals in the 2nd half to get the comeback 2-1 W over South Lewis. Thousand Islands & Lyme also can’t decide a winner, they played to a 2-2 draw. Jade Gentile scored twice for the Baldwinsville Bees as they improve to 7-1 by beating Mercy 2-0. Liverpool gets a hat trick from Alexis Kline as they get their 1st win, 5-0 over Oswego. Christina Pensabene scored the lone goal for Fulton, and Allyson Bricker gets the shutout in their 1-0 W over ES-M. Fulton’s now quietly up to 4-1 this season. Chelsea Jory registers a shutout and Lillie Williams sees the back of the net for the Magicians, Herkimer over Frankfort 1-0. Proctor got a hat trick and an assist from Adele Racic as the 2nd largest school in Section 3 beat Class D Hamilton 5-1.

How about some field hockey? Camden is now 4-1 as they beat Holland Patent 3-0. Melissa Hanvey scored once and assisted on the other two. We love shutouts, so we’ll tell ya that Emily Collins registered that one while being credited for 10 saves. Gabby LaForce did her thing, scoring twice as Weedsport improved to 5-2-1 in their 5-0 W over Cortland. Abby Marsden credited with 2 saves in that shutout. Caz gets another win, this one 6-1 over Homer. 6 different players scored those goals… solid. Little Falls now 5-2-1 after beating Ilion 2-1. Morrisville & NYM play to a 1-1 draw in a game that looked incredibly evenly matched, all the way down to the smallest stats. Megan Wool scored twice for 5-1 Mt. Markham, Hannah Douglas had a whole 1 save and got the shutout, 4-0 over Mohawk. VVS is looking impressive, now 8-1 after beating New Hartford 2-1. Marissa Casciano & Amy Loder each scored twice for ES-M and Rachel Aird picked up a shutout in their 6-0 W over Cato-Meridian. Finally, Maria Orsino saw the back of the net twice as Sauquoit knocked off Canastota 3-1.

2000+ words later, there’s your Section 3 Friday recap! You know the drill: leave us stuff!

9/20 Recap

Posted: September 21, 2012 in Uncategorized

Football starts off our Thursday rundown. Got to watch a good portion of CBA/West Genny last night, and was impressed with CBA’s play. Looks like a very strong team. Deshawn Salter was a workhorse for the Brothers, carrying the ball 21 times for 184 yards and 3 TDs. The defense did a strong job on West Genny animal Naes Howard, who was “held” to 92 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, and a kick return TD. A little bit of the Adonal Foyle effect there – “holding” Adonal to 20-25 points was a success, which would be a great night for nearly anyone else. What would be a good night for any other back, is a defensive win against Naes. Look out, AA. The Brothers are back. In the other Section 3 football game, Conor Herr went Aaron Rodgers on the Mustangs of Marcellus. Dude went off. 23/39, 266 yards and 6 TDs, 3 of them to WR Jake Cooney, and #13 Skaneatles stayed unbeaten with a 47-19 W over still winless Class B Marcellus.

In boys soccer, Whitesboro does its job against winless Camden, winning 7-0. Luke Kosuda 2 goals, John Friedel 1 and 1, and Whitesboro goalies only needed to make 1 save. VVS really starting to come around, this time holding New Hartford to a 1-1 draw. RFA get 2 goals and an assist from Jake Pohl in a 4-1 victory over Oneida. Cooperstown boys came back from a deficit to beat Sauquoit 3-2. Herkimer gets its 2nd W in a row, blanking Little Falls 6-0 behind a Mark Verenich hat trick. Frankfort gets a big W over Mohawk according to reports, 4-1 final. Sherburne gets a pair of goals and assists from Carter Cole in their 8-1 beatdown of Canastota. Proctor continuing their difficult non-league schedule against large schools….. by beating Class C Westmoreland 3-0. Brent Harris scores 4 times, Benjamin Knecht gets the other 2 and 2 assists in Hamilton’s 6-0 victory over Morrisville. ODY also nipped Remsen 3-2 in OT. Tyler Modzeleski gets the lone goal for Cazenovia, Chris Matteson gets the shutout in more than 80 minutes of work as Caz beats Marcellus 1-0 in extra time. Nottingham now 4-1 after beating winless Oswego 8-0; Elevedin Hasanovic continues his tear with a hat trick. ESM gets all 3 in the first half as they beat Fulton 3-1. Andrew DePerro scores twice and Joe Kelly scores, assists on two others as CBA beats winless Mexico 6-0. Adam Resetarits gets a hat trick and an assist, J-D uses a big 2nd half push, scoring 4 goals in a 5-1 final over Cortland. Fowler continues its tear, spreads out the beatdown of Homer yesterday (4 in the 1st, 5 in the 2nd) in their 9-1 win. Fowler now 6-0, and 2 goals & 2 assists for the best name in Section 3 right now: Abdulkareem Abdulkareem. The 2nd best name in Section 3 had 4 saves for them: Abdullah Abdulkareem. Abdul-Jabbar Al-Harbi also with 2 goals. Yahiya Donzo with a goal and 2 assists, Jean-Paul Mboyo with 1 and 3. God, that was fun. If only you guys could see the squiggly red lines right now. Tony Barraco has himself a hell of a night, with a hat trick to go with an assist hat trick (3 goals, 3 assists to the brain-lacking) in a 6-2 win by C-NS over Auburn. F-M improves to 4-1-1 with a 2-1 W over Henninger. Kody Petrus gets a shutout and Copenhagen spreads the wealth in a 6-0 win over Beaver River. Carthage gets another standout performance from Tyler Biolsi, 2 goals for him in a 3-2 W over IHC in extra time. Belleville is still Hellville for soccer, dropping to 0-7 and letting LaFargeville get win #1 on them, 3-1 final. Lyme also spreads the love in their 6-1 W over South Lewis. Troy Wilson was quite the reason for that, having 4 assists to go with his goal. The Purple Ghosts of A-Bay need extra time, but get the 2-1 W over Thousand Islands. Jordan VanBrocklin gets both goals for the winners. Lowville gets a 2-1 W over Sackets Harbor, and South Jeff holds true to the spreading the wealth theme in a 6-0 W over Sandy Creek. Peter Lumley gets the shutout, 6 SJ goals scored by 6 players. Finishing it off, Watertown improves to 7-1 with a 3-1 W over General Brown.

In girls soccer, RFA keeps the theme going and defeats Oneida 6-1. Rachel Zalewski gets 2 goals and an assist, Kelly Bishop gets the shutout as New Hartford keeps VVS winless, 4-0 final. Ashley Williams gets a hat trick in Whitesboro’s 6-2 win over previously unbeaten Camden. Alex Guhin gets a hat trick, Jillian Firenze with another shutout as undefeated Grimes handed it to winless LaFayette 8-0. The other Syracuse Bishop scores 3 in the 2nd half to come back and get the win, 5-3 Ludden over Hannibal. Shelby Hunter with an impressive 2 goals and 3 assists, Mersadiz Hayes 2 goals and an assist as well. Hat trick for Jordan Lidell, 2 and 2 for Bailey Rutan, shutout for Susie Waltz, Cincy keeps on rollin with a 9-0 W over Otselic Valley. Not to be outdone, Jaimee Griffin gets a solid 4 goals and 2 assists in McGraw’s 8-0 win against DeRuyter. More shutouts! Sammy Appleby gets the shutout as MPH wins over Faith Heritage 3-0, Lizzy Dean with 2 of the goals. Grace Johnson 2 goals for Tully as they shut out Pulaski 5-0. In our Jiffy “No Lube” Beatdown of the Night, Solvay puts a double-digit whoopin on Phoenix, 10-0 final. Hat trick and an assist from Chelsie Delperuto, same for Brianna Wiesszczynski. Cato-Meridian gets all 4 in the 2nd half in their 4-2 W over Onondaga; Allison Piedmonte had 2 goals and an assist. Westhill does the same, except 3 goals, in their 3-2 W over Cazenovia. Lindsey Lippert with 2 goals and an assist in that one. Keeping with our 2 and 1 theme, Cheyenne Hall puts up the same numbers for Fayetteville-Manlius as they improve to 5-1-1 with a 5-0 W over Central Square. Allison Butler gets the shutout for J-D, 2-0 over Cortland. CBA now 5-1 after defeating Mexico 3-1. Finally, Kimberly Dieroff gets a handful – 5 goals for Homer as they beat the ‘Cuse 7-1.

Short field hockey rundown last night. 3 games, 2 shutouts: Hannah White gets it for C-NS as they beat RFA 2-0, and Megan Evangelista does it for Liverpool in their 6-0 dismantling of Auburn. Emma Lamison had 3 goals and an assist in that one. Last but not least, Baldwinsville and F-M can’t decide a winner in extra time – 1-1 draw. Mallory Porch scored for B’ville, and Kayla O’Connor did for F-M.

9/19 Full Recap

Here goes. We’ll go in order of sport: boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey. Starting off, Skaneateles improves to 3-1-2 after a 4-3 win over 1-5 Solvay in extra time, Alex Brownlee with a pair of goals in the win, Solvay’s Jacob Mrowinski does the same in defeat. Marcellus now looking tough at 4-1-1, they give Chittenango the goose egg, 2-0. Ludden over Cato 4-3 in extra time (well, at least that’s what the team score says on the Post-Standard website; only 3 individual goals were given out, oh well).
